Log Cabin with a difference

My first black and white quilt this year is a log cabin. I've played around with the block a bit-I've used various widths for the logs, red as the center and also as a light and moved the lights and darks into each others "sides". This is the basic block.
Here I used a light black and white print on the dark side.

Here I used white on the dark side but internally and externally, creating a kind of mini block in the middle.

Here I used a dark black and white print on the light side-making a sort of frame around the block.
There will be 20 blocks in the quilt (lap quilt size), some fooled around with and some like the basic block. I scouted around in my scrap drawers and came up with a mix of black and white fabrics to give some shading. I also found a red and white print and even a shirting in black, white and red.

B/W and Purple Wonky Log Cabin ... done!

Happy New Year, challenge quilters!

Finally, here's a bright pic of the wonky log cabin quilt I finished last month. As I mentioned I was inspired by Jacquie (Tallgrass Prairie blog) to go wonky and I learned a lot! With the project completed, I'm inspired to create yet another black and white project for this challenge. Now I just have to jump into my stash and see what's jumping out at me.

I wish everyone a very healthy, happy and joyful 2009!
