Jazzberry Jam to share ...

This is Jazzberry Jam (or JJ for short) ~ another of my B&W Challenge quilts! One of Crayola's crayon colors, jazzberry jam is a purple-red color, just like the fabulous backing fabric from a Kaffe Fassett collection. You can read more about JJ and see more photos on my blog ~ just click here.

Feverish

Introducing Feverish, my black and white and rainbow lap quilt (I know, it doesn't technically meet the "one color" part of the challenge, but the blacks and whites are such a key element, I couldn't resist sharing).

More photos of the quilt on my blog tomorrow.

Pattern Info

The pattern name is Kitty Klatch, published in 1999 by designer Janet Jones Worley.

I found the pattern at Stitcher's Garden in Franklin, TN in 2004.

Her wall hanging layout calls for 9 kitties (I enlarged it to 12) and there is also a design for a large lap/small bed quilt.

This link takes you to the designer's website (pattern is still available).

Hope this helps!

Meet Dave & Friends ~

This 40" w x 39" high wall hanging inspired by a 1999 pattern of Janet Jones Worley is almost ready to go to the longarm quilter ~ once finished, it will hang near my desk at work.

Why Dave & Friends? I took another quilt to the office a week or so ago and asked my co-workers to help name it. During that process, one of our attorneys kept saying 'name it Dave' ~ didn't fit for that quilt but it works for this one (plus there are now 12 partners in our firm, two of whom are Davids ~ not something I 'planned' but it happened anyway).

There's another black and white and red pending, but I need to finish up a few other tops first.

Growing Pains

Growing Pains ~ my black and white and green quilt is finished ~ you can see the pictures here.

It was quilted by Chris Ballard (she used lime green thread and an amazing panto named "Shiva")

Next one is partially cut out ~ will share when there is something worthwhile to see!

Top Completed

The top is assembled and the back is pieced!

I've updated the Picasa album . . . including a sneak peak of the back.

The quilt will be off to my long arm quilter this week.  We've come up with an exciting plan for the quilting ~ will share photos once the binding is completed.

Your thoughts?

I still have one more row of blocks to piece ~ I'm playing with the insertion of color stripes rather than adding a border later. I've auditioned more greens that you can imagine, finally settling on this marvelous batik. [photo is clickable for a closer view]

Once the final row of blocks is ready, I'll spend a day or two contemplating the color distribution amongst the green charms before I actually stitch the top together.

Current thinking is to bind with a smallish black and white print (yet to be chosen as there's an order coming my way from e-quilter any day now)

What do you think about this direction?

And so it begins...

The pieces are cut and the stitching has begun!  There will be 60 blocks in all ~ the first 21 are pieced.

These are the selvages from the two background fabrics ~ and you can click here to see the online album I've started to show my progress on this quilt.

I'll also be posting about this quilt on my blog ~ just loving how this one is translating from vision to design wall!

One to Share ~

When I was updating my 2008 quilt journal, I re-discovered the photos of Geese at Sunset ~ completed early last summer.

The geese and borders are scrappy black and whites.  The sky fabric had incredible flowers in every shade of yellow/orange/red (technically not "one color" but truly one fabric).  I came up with the non-traditional borders and pieced the offset diamonds from the leftover sky corner triangles.

Over the weekend, I started cutting pieces for my first "official" challenge quilt ~ hope to post photos in a week or so...

Fabrics Chosen...

I pulled out the fabrics for my first B&W challenge quilt ~ Roses are Red.  I have a couple other projects in front of this, but I'll be starting on this in January if all goes well.

Happy to Be Here ~

Thanks, Jackie ~ I'm happy to be a part of this challenge!  I've long had a photo of my black and white stash in the sidebar album of my blog ~ "Quilty Projects Waiting for Attention" ~ and this will be just the motivation I need to get busy and make this quilt for myself.

I've made two B&W quilts before . . . The first was Deeper Than the Stars, which was made for the Alzheimer's Foundation of America's Quilt to Remember project.  I recently posted about this quilt on my blog.

The second was Juxtaposition (shown above).  Made as a birthday gift for a dear family friend, I used the love-it-or-hate-it Yellow Brick Road pattern so that the focus would be on the fabrics instead of intricate piecing. The very narrow green flange was my first attempt at the technique ~ and I (& our friend) love the results.

I do have a plan for my challenge quilt ~ it won't happen until after the first of the year ~ but it WILL happen in 2009.

Looking forward to watching as ya'll share your work here!
