Here's My Design

I did get my decision made during January but didn't get around to posting until now. I'm still ambivalent about my color choice, but there's still plenty of time for me to change my mind. Here's an EQ6 of the plan:
I will get started on fabric cutting this month. Block assembly to follow.

mom's block...

...just wanted to share my mom's first block with you...she doesn't have a blog but is thrilled to be included in this challenge...as you can see, her 3rd color choice is a great pink/fuchsia batik...the pattern is called samurai squares...:

...mom is a breast cancer survivor so pink is a special color for her...☺...i think it's going to be a fabulous quilt, don't you?

Log Cabin with a difference

My first black and white quilt this year is a log cabin. I've played around with the block a bit-I've used various widths for the logs, red as the center and also as a light and moved the lights and darks into each others "sides". This is the basic block.
Here I used a light black and white print on the dark side.

Here I used white on the dark side but internally and externally, creating a kind of mini block in the middle.

Here I used a dark black and white print on the light side-making a sort of frame around the block.
There will be 20 blocks in the quilt (lap quilt size), some fooled around with and some like the basic block. I scouted around in my scrap drawers and came up with a mix of black and white fabrics to give some shading. I also found a red and white print and even a shirting in black, white and red.

Sally Sweet Quilt

My daughter and I have Quilt Block *almost( a day calendars this year, and are basically following them. Yesterday wasn't a block day on the calendar, but I made one anyway, because I only needed ONE to finish my Sally Sweet quilt. Above is a block depicting him, with my prototype drawing. These blocks are all 6" finished. Today wasn't a block day either, because it is the intro pic of the next quilt. So today I cut my sashings for Sally. In this terrible picture, the side-to-side sashings look like they are too short, but that is only because the blocks are not all sewn together yet. They will be fine, trust me. And this is the quilt in it's entirety... it will be 24 1/2 inches square.

It also qualifies for a Bumbling Bounty Hunters Mini Quilt Challenge I am in. That challenge is about characters from Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum novels. In them, Sally (Salvatore) Sweet is a very tall, very hairy, very straight, Italian guy who drives a school bus by day and is a transvestite in his club act at night. I tried to capture him in this quilt. Now! On to something else!

1 piece in progress

Here is a sneak peak at the challenge piece I hinted about the other day. As (I hope) you can see, my 3rd color is orange thread! This is a woven, curvy table runner. I still have more lines to stitch and then some other embellishments to add. More later!

Hey Jackie!

Made another pillowcase for you,

that brings the total to nine.

Kitty Cat Completed

I started this quilt last week after being inspired by the black and white quilt challenge. I knew that I wanted a 'Cat' theme and set about drawing some characters. My cat looks rather grumpy but by the bottom of the quilt you will see that he manages a smile before showering his friends with hearts and flowers.

The next time your own cats are gazing out of the window staring gloomily at a bird on a branch - perhaps he's having quite different dreams from that of the usual cat and mouse/bird theories ....
