Tumbling Blocks

Yay.. I have finally had a chance to get started here. Been really enjoying seeing everyone's beginnings.. and even some finishes. So inspiring.

I'll be making two quilts.. I hope.. for my two boys for Christmas next year. The first one is going to be a tumbling block. I have always wanted to make one of these.. and the black and white color scheme seem to fit it perfectly.. I think anyways. Been cutting away at the diamond shapes..

..and making the blocks. Here are some just laid on the floor.. they are not sew together in rows yet..

My third color for this one will probably be blue. But I'm not sure where I'll put it yet. Quite probably the binding.

  1. Wow! The black and white really really works for tumbling blocks. That will be fabulous!

  2. Wow! That looks great, Eileen! If you are indeed using blue, I would get some light, medium and dark blues and replace some of the black and white diamonds randomly.

  3. This looks perfect! The fabrics make the pattern perfectly three-dimensional. I have tried this only on a preemie quilt, but it was great fun.

  5. WOW! That is really cool! I have never tried that pattern before. It looks complex. Is it hard to put together? I don't know if I would have the patience to cut all those diamonds. Cannot wait to see the finished prodcut!

  8. Wow...your idea is really great! I've never seen like this and also never imagine little square fabrics could be turned to beautiful rows of tumbling blocks. You're really clever! Can't wait to see your progress.

  15. Love the black/white tumbling blocks. This is going to be great. I got some black with white dots on sale around Christmas and that is going to be the theme fabric for my b/w quilt.

  16. You could do a flippy boarder in blue then a black and white one, then a blue binding to tie it all together.

Flippy-one of those that you put on a pillow case. I'm sorry I don't know the right words...I'm a newbie quilter!

  18. machine blocks, and do you hand sew them together in rows or by machine. I think it looks amazing. Will be fun to see if you need another color...or not!
